I’m sure you’re all well aware of the skyrocketing cost of gas and electricity around the world. Because of this, I’ve been thinking recently about ways in which I can save money on my own energy usage.
With a little help from my friends
I’m often reluctant to turn my heating on most winters, but especially so this year. Nevertheless, I’ve been fortunate enough to get my hands on a truck load of free timber with some assistance from a very generous friend of a friend.
I own a wood burner so I thought that this would be a great way of heating my home rather than having to rely on my costly central heating.
Transporting the logs
The large pile of wood was kindly dropped off on my driveway. My first task was to move the timber to a more suitable location. A place where it wouldn’t be in anybody’s way.
I ultimately decided this location would be my back yard at least for the time being. With the use of a wheelbarrow, I moved the timber around the side of my house (via a shared public pathway).
Finding the right place for storage
I then dumped the contents in my back garden. Honestly, I didn’t mind too much where all the wood was going to go for now.
I knew that I would probably have to move it all again anyway after the job is done. This task took several trips back and forth with my trusty wheel barrow but it was finally all shifted after some time.
My next job is to cut the wood up. The logs would need to be small enough to fit into my wood burner when the time came to use them.
Do you personally know a place or person that you can obtain free wood from? Can you think of a more efficient method that I could have used to move all of that wood over a distance?
