We’re all aware of the problems people have been having with paying their ever increasing energy bills. If you’ve checked the news recently you will certainly know about this.
It can even be a heavy burden for those who are fortunate enough to have a disposable income. The same goes for those with savings that they can dip into. However, what if I told you that suppliers are now offering something new? This being a smart way for you to save money on your gas and electricity
How do I apply for this scheme?
This particular program has been coined as the Demand Flexibility Service (or DFS for short). If you have a smart meter, you should automatically receive an email or text from your provider.
This will be to enquire whether or not you are interested in signing up. If this is not the case for you then you should go out of your way to ask your energy supplier directly. Just for clarity’s sake, this program is entirely optional. Energy users are in no way being forced to take part.
What exactly do I need to do as a participant?
You will be most effective at making money from the DFS by cutting down on your use of energy guzzling appliances in your home. Think long and hard about what these might be. These can include:
- tumble dryers
- ovens
- dishwashers
- electric heaters
- showers
- washing machines
Customers don’t have too worry so much about things like television sets and lightbulbs. This is because these aren’t as hungry for power. Bear in mind that this program is focused on reducing your energy usage.
They are not trying to altogether stop you from using gas and electricity cold turkey. There is no need to worry as families will not be left sitting in a dark room, shivering.
Backup measures for the demand flexibility service
If you are wise, it might a good idea to use generators, camping stoves and batteries during peak times. This will let your household do what you need to do energy-wise. At the same time, you will still be fully participating in the scheme.
Which energy suppliers are involved in this scheme?
The demand flexibility service has been set up by the national grid (specifically the Electricity System Operator or ESO). Several suppliers have already jumped on board with this scheme including:
This isn’t a difficult money saver to get involved with as long as customers can fulfill the right qualifications for it. You can profit by employing some simple steps and common sense ideas when it comes to your own personal energy usage.
