More and more big name energy brands are hopping on the demand flexibility service bandwagon. It must suggest that this is a reputable scheme given it’s ability to sway these successful companies.

Who is eligible for the demand flexibility service scheme?
This program requires the need for regular monitoring. For this reason, you will need to have a smart meter installed in your home if you want to qualify for this. Clearly, you will also not be able to sign up if your current energy supplier isn’t taking part in the DFS either.
Nevertheless, it’s easy enough to switch providers nowadays if need be. Furthermore, it’s now a lot simpler to get a smart meter as well. It’s not just normal, everyday consumers doing this. Many industries and businesses (big and small) are taking part as well.
How popular is this DFS scheme?
There are said to be more than 100,000 UK residents who are eligible for this with British Gas. Conversely, other energy providers like Octopus Energy have had over 400,000 customers sign up for the DFS so far.
These numbers will very much vary based on your supplier. This scheme has already gone through a trial period. Additionally, there are plans to broaden this out to even more households up and down the country.
When will the demand flexibility service be happening?
Tests and trials for the demand flexibility service scheme initially began on the 1st of November this year. Registered customers should be notified the day before. The allows participants time to make preparations. This might mean switching off any appliances that will use up energy the next day.
Typically, gas and electricity usage is at its peak between 4pm – 7pm on an average day. This is mainly the time when households will be taking part. These energy saving periods (when the scheme is active) will run for about an hour each time.
How long will the DFS last for?
Depending on the supplier, this scheme is thought to run until the end of March next year (2023). Although, this could be extended but it hinges on how successful the program is on the whole. Some experts are already very optimistic. One even said that the DFS likely to be continued in the UK for years to come.
Depending on your daily habits, you can earn a surprising amount of money from this program. Although, it’s still up in the air regarding how long this scheme will be continued. We will definitely need some more updates further down the line.
