Guest Posting Part 2 – Progress & Organization

After evaluating my results so far, it would seem that the most obvious solution to my guest posting dilemma would be to aim lower. Going forward, I think I will choose to target more obscure blogs and websites.

Balancing Act

On the other hand, it would be pointless to guest post on a blog that gets little to no web traffic. This is true seeing as the entire purpose of this exercise is to promote and market my website. For this reason, I will need to find a balance that will satisfy everyone involved.

Giving away my content

I was pretty reluctant to try guest blogging at first. This is because I wanted to write content for my own platform rather than giving away free articles to somebody else.

Conversely, I decided to go about this by picking out a handful of article I was originally planning on publishing on my website and instead setting them aside to be used as future guest posts elsewhere. This way they will be pre-written and ready to send over right away without having to sacrifice any more time.

I am not giving up just yet. In addition, I will continue to reach out to influencers in the hope that somebody will accept my proposal if I am persistent enough.

Getting a bite

Interestingly, I did get a recent response from a website turning me down. This is clearly the last kind of reply I wanted. However, the silver lining here is that I finally got a response (which is a small improvement at the very least).

Being prepared

In spite of my failures, I’ve been continuing to seek out guest posting opportunities in order to promote the website and make it more popular with internet users.

I’ve decided to be a bit more organized in this venture and plan this out. I have created a checklist of personal finance blogs I want to get in touch with about this next.

Doing this will essentially mean that I won’t be addressing the same people twice by accident (which would clearly be pointless). I can then put a line through the ones that I have already tried to communicate with so not to waste my own time or the time of the recipient.

Have you ever tried guest posting before with any success? How would you personally prepare for approaching a blogger with the hope of submitting a guest post?
