In terms of eating, there are some affordable options out there for families. Especially those who might be struggling financially at the moment.
There are plenty of people and organisations who are willing to help out those with little money. Even some of the country’s biggest supermarkets are coming to the aid of the poorest this winter.
How does this scheme work exactly?
This scheme is aptly named the Tesco Kids Eat Free scheme. It will take place in the many hundreds of in store Tesco cafes across the UK.
In order to make this work, you need to purchase an item worth at least 60p if you want to earn one meal. Conversely, this can easily be multiplied. You will get a meal for every qualifying item that you buy.
What kind of food is available at Tesco?
The meal options available to participants include the:
- Kids Breakfast
- Kids Pick & Mix
- Kids Hot Meal Deal
Other food items on the menu include:
- sandwiches
- fish fingers
- chicken
- beans on toast
There are even healthy, vegetarian options available such as fresh fruit and avocado.
Tesco Kids Eat Free Eligibility
It’s not yet known how much of a demand there will be for the offer this time around. The validity of the deal will likely hinge on availability of food on the day.
You will need to have a Tesco clubcard or mobile app in order to qualify for this. Although, it really isn’t that difficult to apply for a free account and get your hands on one of these cards.
It’s unclear whether this deal is specifically just for children alone. I’m not entirely sure if an adult who is struggling can personally ask for a child’s portion.
For this reason, I recommend asking a member of staff about this in store if you are unsure. You can also enquire about other details of the scheme while you’re at it.
How long will this deal last?
Tesco Kids Eat Free initially launched on boxing day (December 26th 2022). This specific deal is said to come to an end on the 6th of January (in the new year). Fingers crossed, there may potentially be plans to prolong this scheme to a later date. It will depend on its overall effectiveness and success.
This program has been run before (earlier in the summer), Although, it is now back again by popular demand. However, this can also be seen as a sad indictment of the circumstances and times that many of us are currently living through.
Tesco already donates a lot of there surplus food to charities and food banks. Furthermore, it’s great to see that they are running this scheme again. There are quite literally millions of hungry children up and down the country.
This is clearly something that is very much needed right now. Do you know of anybody who you believe would benefit from Tesco Kids Eat Free? Is this scheme a good idea in your opinion and why do you think that?
