FREE Phone Calls & Texts to Turkey & Syria with Sky Mobile & Talk

As I’m sure you’ve probably heard, over the last few days, severe earthquakes have hit both Turkey and Syria. Of course, this is horrifyingly sad for all involved.

However, a few big companies are stepping in (as they should) to provide support. Specifically, this includes the likes of Sky. If you have a loved one you desperately want to get in touch with, then I would recommend paying close attention.

What does this deal mean exactly?

For free, you can either make a phone call or send a text message to one or both of these affected countries. This offer is especially useful for British citizens with foreign relations. It’s an affordable way for people to check up on friends or family who live in either Syria or Turkey.

How long will this offer last?

This act of charity began on the 6th of February. Sky have made sure that this opportunity will be available up until the 28th of February. Make the most of this here (while it lasts).

Eligibility

Your call or text must originate from the UK in order for this to be valid. If you make the call or text from any other country in the rest of the world then this will not work. It is only available to customers of either Sky Mobile or Sky Talk.

Drawbacks

The charges may still show up on your phone bill. Nevertheless, Sky state that these costs will all be wiped away. This should happen within approximately 14 days from the time they are incurred.

Apparently, you will still be charged for picture messages (MMS). For this reason, you may want to avoid sending this type of text.

Why is this really being offered to Turkey & Syria?

More cynical individuals out there might see this as a cheap and empty PR stunt to take advantage of the earthquake. Some may even accuse Sky of doing this in order to simply encourage people to sign up to their phone service. Those people may indeed have a point.

In the past, other brands have attempted similar marketing moves. This typically happens when something big is happening in the news (good or bad). However, I’m sure the afflicted people of this natural disaster are still grateful for aid during this terrible time.

People usually appreciate any kind of help that they can get even if the motives seem a little sketchy. Despite what some feel, empathy and compassion can sometimes factor into the decision making of certain businesses.

Is there anything that I can do to help with this earthquake?

Any support for the Syrians and Turks coming from the general public is welcome. This could be cash donations or any other charitable gesture you can think of. Try enquiring with relief efforts such as:

You can also do an online search to see which other legitimate platforms and organizations will accept your donations.

So far, this earthquake is said to have killed tens of thousands of people and counting. Even worse, not all of the bodies have been recovered from the rubble yet. Sky is not alone.

Other big name, household brands like Voxi and Vodafone have offered their assistance as well. Correspondingly, this too is in the form of similar free communication features in response to this emergency.

An effective method of saving money on phone costs as well as anything else is by using gift cards. You can obtain these relatively easily through reward sites like SwagBucks.

Have you considered donating to the Turkey & Syria earthquake relief effort? Do you believe that Sky are being genuine and sincere here and why do you think that?
