There is no denying that flyer and poster distribution work is very much doable without a vehicle to drive travel in. Most folks have two working legs to walk on. This basically means owning a Ford Fiesta isn’t absolutely necessary by any means.
Wouldn’t it be easier to drive a car while doing this job? In some cases, yes it would. I can assure you that having ownership or access to a vehicle comes with a number of benefits when doing a flyer distribution job.
The most obvious one that will spring to most people’s minds is the ability to travel to lots of different places in a short space of time.
“Travel by car or by bike! It helps to avoid walking too much and hurting your feet.”
Jeanne Damas (Writer & Actress)
In America, there are about 300 million cars currently on the road (Complex). This just goes to show how popular vehicles are. It also shows why driving one might be the right course of action in either flyer, poster, leaflet or catalog distribution work.
Why should I drive a car while distributing? Being able to transport yourself quickly and easily from A to B is vitally important for a flyer distributor. Moving around is a significant part of what it is to be a flyer distribution employee.
Let’s take a much deeper dive into many other reasons how and why being able to drive a car is so useful in a flyer distribution job. We can also look at any possible downsides to driving an automobile while doing this work as well.
Will my flyer distribution employer provide transportation?
Distributors sometimes have to distribute flyers or leaflets in an area quite far away from where you usually work. If this is true then the distribution employer you are working for may arrange transportation to and from the work location.
Is owning a vehicle mandatory in flyer distribution work?
Owning a vehicle as a flyer distributor can be a notable advantage in some instances. I know that driving isn’t absolutely mandatory.
On the other hand, it is desirable among certain flyer distribution employers. This is even more relevant if you have to travel long distances for your work.
Do flyer distribution companies prefer car owners?
You may be an individual that owns and can drive a car. In this case, you might find that employers prioritize you at the top of the pile when it comes to them accepting flyer distributor job applications, from my experience.
For distribution employers, the ability to drive a vehicle sets applicants apart from those that can’t. They will know that you can travel to places quickly with convenience.
On the other hand, flyer distributors without access to a car will have to rely on public transport. This can be anything but reliable, believe me.
Will my flyer distribution employer pay for travel expenses?
If you choose not to do drive a car then your flyer distribution employer may cover travel expenses instead. This includes bus tickets or taxi fares.
If you have to drive a vehicle while working then the distribution company you work for might give you a special allowance for fuel.
Most other conventional employers in other industries won’t pay for your commute to and from working. This is unless there are special circumstances. Don’t expect flyer distribution work to be any different.
However, if you have to travel a lot while you are on the job then any reputable employer will reimburse you for this.
You may have several individual distribution jobs to do during the day with long driving distances in between. Your boss should then cover you financially for that. For instance, you might have to put up posters in several areas of a city in one whole day.
What if my boss won’t reimburse my travel expenses?
My advice is to be particularly cautious of flyer distribution employers who don’t pay travel expenses. People might see this as a red flag showing they’re not a credible distribution company.
Although, some distributor positions just involve having to stand on the street handing out flyers. Travel expenses won’t be necessary in cases like this.
Do flyer & poster distributors get to drive a company car?
You can simply just have the ability to drive a car. Although, you don’t necessarily need to have to own a vehicle in order to be a flyer distributor.
You might be doing a flyer or poster distribution job that really requires you to drive a car for long-distance travel. The distribution company you’re working for may provide the vehicle for you depending on the position.
In my opinion, I find most flyer distribution employers don’t provide company cars. However, you won’t know this for specific cases unless you ask for yourself.
Do flyer distributors have to look after their company car?
Your flyer or poster distribution employer could give you a company car to drive. You will probably be in charge of basic vehicle maintenance such as:
- oil refills
- cleanliness inside and out
- keeping tire pressure at the right level
- filling up with fuel
Do flyer & poster distributors need clean driving licenses?
In my experience, flyer and poster distribution employers can be picky about the number of points on your driving license. They can also notice other driving offenses. Your application might be more successful if you have a clean record.
Some bosses might not mind distributors having a few car driving discrepancies here and there. Who hasn’t got a parking ticket or accidentally ran a red light?
Most people including myself aren’t squeaky clean drivers. Distribution employers wouldn’t automatically expect you to be either.
Although, during the application process, companies will probably prioritize clean drivers first. It’s common sense that they will want safe and competent flyer distributors working for them.
Why do flyer distribution employers like clean drivers?
No flyer distribution company wants their distributors to be involved in any car accidents on the job. They will worry about the employee’s wellbeing. It may also have a negative effect on the company’s reputation.
We have covered quite a few points regarding why driving a car beats other modes of transportation for flyer distributors specifically.
Additionally, you might find that being the owner of an automobile can even be advantageous. This is particularly relevant during the application process for flyer distribution work.
Although, we also know that there are drawbacks to combining vehicles with this kind of work too.
We can learn that driving and owning a car is suitable for certain flyer distribution positions. Then again, it’s unsuitable for other jobs.
In addition, we know that the opinions of employers differ when it comes to providing company cars and even travel expenses.
Perhaps your next move should be to book some driving lessons. You can learn how to drive if you don’t already know how.
You can also invest in a car if you think that you will really need one. Which car should I drive while distributing flyers? It doesn’t have to be anything flash. You can always use a car for other purposes if not solely for flyer distribution.
