How Flyer Distributors Best Handle Hot & Cold Weather

Ask any seasoned distributor. They will tell you that flyer, poster and leaflet distribution work is very much an outdoors job. This means that the weather will be a big sticking point for anyone who has any desire to do this work.
From my experience, flyer distribution work is pretty flexible. However, distributors won’t always get to choose exactly when they will work.
Distributors need to be able to handle anything the elements have to throw at you. This includes hot as well as cold weather conditions.
The seasons of the year will also have a significant effect on when, where and how flyer distributors go about their work. There are plenty of things you can do to combat the weather. The big one is dressing in the appropriate clothing, for instance.
The longest ever streak of rainfall lasted 12 consecutive days in Washington DC in May 2016 (NOAA Regional Climate Centers from The Washington Post). This is all the more reason why you should be ready for bad weather.
“There’s no such thing as bad weather, just soft people.”
– Bill Bowerman (Co-founder of Nike & American Sports Coach)
This quote might seem harsh. Although, the onus is on the distributor to be able to deal with the weather. They need to organize themselves. At the end of the day, the weather will do whatever the hell it wants to, at any time.
Let’s explore what flyer distributors can do in order to be most productive. Especially when the wind is blowing in their faces (so to speak).
How do flyer distributors best handle the weather?
As a flyer distributor, you will need to be able to withstand the elements. This means protecting yourself from the summer sun. Additionally, you will need to endure the cold, wet weather of winter and autumn.
Distributors will mostly be distributing outside in the open. Correspondingly, it’s always best to prepare for the worst-case weather scenario in this job.
What kind of weather do flyer distributors have to work in?
Flyer distributors have to work outside in all manner of weather. You need to prepare yourself for all different kinds of weather conditions.
In my time as a distributor, I have distributed in the most extreme circumstances. I have worked while walking through many inches of snow.
On the other hand, the weather conditions have been bearable for the most part. Don’t let any of this scare you away from this job. Normally, it will be fine and dry on most days.
Will flyer distributors have to work whatever the weather?
When do flyer distributors work? Businesses always need to advertise in order to make more money. This means that distribution marketing tends to happen all year round. It will take place regardless of how the weather is behaving.
Most distributors will find that they have to distribute rain or shine no matter what. This is unless they are doing this job on a freelance basis like I once did.
Is warm weather difficult for flyer distributors to work in?
It might just so happen to be a very hot day. You might believe this is an ideal circumstance for flyer and poster distribution work. On the other hand, warm weather also comes with its own challenges.
In this instance, distributors would be wise to take some sunscreen, very few clothes and a hat to protect their faces from the rays.
Should distributors wear clothing based around the weather?
Clearly, if it’s raining then you will need to take certain items with you on the job. This could be waterproof clothing or an umbrella at least.
Although, an umbrella might just be a hindrance for a flyer distributor. This is down to the fact that you will need your hands free to do the work.
If it’s cold, icy or even snowy weather outside then be sure to wear plenty of layers. My advice is that you should also take a thermal hat, gloves, and a scarf.
Do flyer distributors need to dress to suit their surroundings?
It’s possible that a flyer distributor can work both indoors and outdoors. I’ve discovered this in my time doing this work.
For this reason, it’s common sense that you will need to dress to suit the environment. You will need to do this as best you can like any other worker would do in any other job.
Should flyer distributors prepare their clothes beforehand?
It’s useful to take a bag with an extra layer of clothing inside with you. It’s better to have something and not need it than need something and not have it, in my view.
The best way for a distributor to handle daily weather conditions is to consider clothing. Decide beforehand the clothes you are going to be wearing. You can make a choice of what you are taking with you before you even begin the working day.
Do distributors need to dress formally even if it’s raining?
I have found that the way you dress to suit the weather can also conflict with how your flyer distribution employer might want you to look. This is true if there is a certain dress code that you have to follow. It’s all about finding a balance between the two.
Some distribution employees don’t always have the luxury of dressing in a way that will protect them from the wind and rain.
If you are a catalog distributor (one of my previous jobs) then you will be interacting directly with people. For this, you will probably have to wear a suit and tie even on a rainy day.
Can flyer & poster distributors choose their own hours?
Flyer distribution work is known to be very flexible when people compare it to many other jobs. In my opinion, the flexible nature of the work is more common for freelance flyer distributors.
You might be in a situation where your employer will give you a stack of flyers to give out. Your boss will then tell you to distribute them all before a specific deadline.
For this very reason, distributors can plan out and customize their work shifts over a period of time. Your boss isn’t forcing you to go out at specific times when the weather is poor like you will have to do in a conventional day job.
On the other hand, some flyer distribution employers will go against this. Instead, they will enforce a much more rigid work structure for their distributors. Unfortunately, in this case, you will have to work whatever the weather is doing.
Can flyer distributors time their work around the weather?
You may already know that you have a guaranteed indoor distribution job. This could be something like putting up posters in a shopping mall, for example.
If this sounds right then you could save that job for a day when the weather is bad. This is smart seeing as you won’t have to be stuck outside.
The weather might be acting up and you may have to travel a long distance to distribute. If this feels familiar then consider going by car or bus if the former isn’t possible. This way you are mostly shielded from the elements. It’s all about managing your time.
Can distributors choose to work when the weather is good?
If your particular flyer distribution job has flexible working hours then perhaps you should try making the most of it. I like to check the weather forecast. You can then choose to work at times when the weather is likely to be fine and bearable.
Does it matter where flyer distributors live and work?
To be honest, a lot depends on where in the world you live and work as a flyer distributor. I personally get a raw deal by working in the UK where it tends to rain a lot.
You would be fortunate to do this job in a country that generally has warm weather for the majority of the year. For instance, wouldn’t it be nice to distribute flyers or poster on a summer’s day in the south of France?
The weather is just another hurdle in the life of a flyer distributor. However, you should now have a better idea concerning how to tackle this. One of the best ways to do this is to think about what you’re wearing. Also, decide on when the best time is to wear it.
We can learn that flyer distributors will sometimes have no choice but to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. We also know that being up to date with weather reports and forecasts is of paramount importance.
I recommend that you invest in some in some wind and waterproof clothing. Buy a raincoat at the very least. You will be glad to own this if you ever consider this work.
As well, you can learn much more by reading books about flyer distribution and other articles too.
The weather can be unpredictable but at least we now know how to get a handle on it. Correspondingly, you can learn How To Distribute Posters In Stores & Other Public Places.
Do you own the appropriate clothing to suit all different types of weather? Do you have any of your own advice for dealing with hot or cold weather conditions? Please don’t forget to share this with your friends and comment below. Thanks for reading!
