In my time as a flyer distributor, I have found there are more nuts and bolts to this than there initially appears to be. You’re not just slapping a poster on a wall or pushing a catalog through a door.
You need to think about things like where the specific target audience is most likely to see what you are distributing. It also matters whether or not you have permission to distribute where you want to distribute. Yes, believe it or not, you do need permission to perform distribution in some places.

It should work most of the time but you will sometimes get a “no“. This might be because they already have enough posters in their window display so don’t take it personally.

People sometimes see it as rudeness if you don’t ask for consent before poster distribution. Non-consensual posting can even result in the proprietor taking down your advertisement. The staff aren’t even aware of who put the advertisement there so why should they keep it up?

How do I convince a store owner to display my poster?
If you build up good chemistry with the staff then your poster will likely stay up for a long time. My advice is to explain to them what your advertisement is all about in a friendly and enthusiastic way.
Try to convince and demonstrate to the owner how the advertisement will benefit their own business. If they know that they are going to get something out of it then they will be more open to the idea.
Does having self-confidence help in distribution work?
If you want to distribute a poster inside a business premises then may need certain skills. You need to be persuasive, persistent and little bit silver-tongued. Bring out the charismatic Jeff Goldblum character that you always knew you had inside of you.
How do store owners benefit from poster distribution?
Some poster distributors like to give store owners incentives. These can be things like coupons and gift vouchers in order to sweeten the deal.
The business owner can then use these discount vouchers to spend on further distribution marketing. This is in order to promote their own respective business. It’s essentially give and take. You’re exchanging advertising for more advertising.
This doesn’t really work for freelance poster distributors. This is because they don’t work for a big company that offers this kind of promotion. However, the client your working for can arrange something like this if you discuss it with them.
