It might seem obvious what distribution workers hand out. Although, at the same time, it may surprise you when you see the variety of advertisements available for delivery to recipients.
Most people are aware of the flyers you get through your door or posters you see stuck on walls, but there is so much more to it. Additionally, There are different types of advertising for all sorts of different brands, products and services which I found out in my time as a distributor.
On average, statistics show it is thought that recipients keep and observe most distribution materials for a little over a month before they eventually throw it away. This some pretty impressive staying power if you ask me. You can certainly see this as a good sign if a flyer distribution job interests you.
Let’s take a look together at what is being distributed exactly and also see the in-depth contents of these advertisements.
What do distribution workers distribute?
What is currently in distribution? Distributors are asked to deliver advertisements such as:
- flyers
- posters
- newspapers
- magazines
- stickers
- badges
- restaurant menus
- charity donation bags
- free samples
- business cards
- leaflets
- brochures
- directories
- catalogs
As you can see, these advertisements can come in lots of different shapes and sizes. In like manner, the variety of things currently in distribution will probably surprise you. If you are distributing door-to-door then it can be anything that will fit through a letterbox.
You might be delivering catalogs, brochures or anything else that lists products available for purchase by shoppers. I find that catalogs may sometimes be accompanied by additional leaflets and an order form slipped inside.
Why do brands choose distribution campaigns?
Pretty much all businesses will benefit from distribution campaigns in one way or another, in my opinion. With this in mind, this is why so many brands choose to participate in this type of advertising.
I find that flyer and leaflet distribution can be particular fruitful for local businesses if the distribution occurs within the local area. Even if a brand doesn’t obtain a sale or lead as a result of the distribution campaign, they are still getting a decent amount of exposure and publicity from it.

Do distributors perform shared distributions?
It depends on what your employer wants you to do. Sometimes you will be doing single distributions. Other times your employer will ask you to carry out a shared distribution, from my experience.
As a distributor, if you find yourself distributing several items to the same house at once then this may be an example of a shared distribution. Shared distributions mostly just apply to door-drop distributors. In contrast, you can’t really get away with handing someone multiple flyers in public as easily.
What are the benefits and drawbacks of shared distributions?
There are plenty of advantages and disadvantages that connect to shared distributions. This applies to:
- clients
- customers
- employers
- distributors
It’s a trade-off whichever type of flyer distribution campaign you choose to be honest, from what I’ve experienced.
Brands like to cut costs whenever they can. They do this by choosing the option of having a distributor deliver distribution materials along side other advertisements from different companies. Wouldn’t you want to save money on advertising if you were running a business too?
The other side of this is the loss of impact an advertisement might have from being together with other flyers and leaflets. Of course, they are all trying to sell something ultimately. By the same token, a flyer will pack more of a punch with the recipient if it arrives on its own. This is because the focus is completely on that one thing, in my view.
If it’s in a group together with lots of other flyers then the recipient might throw out the whole lot altogether, out of pure frustration. A recipient might feel overwhelmed by the quantity. They may not bother reading a bunch of advertisements piled together, one by one. It all depends on the individual recipient.
Are shared distributions cheaper or more expensive?
One big benefit of shared distribution is that it’s cheaper than a single distribution. Furthermore, this is true for all parties because the distributor will deliver lots of advertisement as one.
It is a lot more cost-effective for the distribution employer. This is because they don’t have to pay flyer distributor to do a separate distribution each time. The downside is that there will be less work for the distributor this way. However, it’s also cheaper for the client too.
This should now give you a greater insight into what kinds of things are currently in distribution at the moment. These advertisements can be anything from business cards to restaurant menus.
We are also aware that distributor don’t always just deliver flyers and leaflets on their own. They can be in a group together as shared distributions, of course. In addition, we can learn the importance of timing when it comes deciding what to distribute and when to do it too.
The next thing you should probably do is study more about what goes into flyer distribution work in general. It’s advisable that you read books about flyer distribution and you can also research even more articles. Doing this will help you become a great flyer distributor and more importantly maximize your potential earnings.
We’ve now covered what you will be delivering as a distributor. Correspondingly, the next logical thing you will probably want to learn about is What Are The Duties & Responsibilities Of A Flyer Distributor?
Can you think of anything currently in distribution that I have failed to mentioned? What is your favorite and least favorite thing to deliver as a distributor? Please don’t forget to share this with your friends and comment below. Thanks for reading!
